Curriculum Vitae

I am a full time University student studying BA Media and Communications at Birmingham City University. Studying a Broad Course, I have so far specialised in Television Studio Production Skills and Visual Design as modules. I am a hardworking and determined student who is not afraid to get stuck in and try out new things. I put my utmost effort into absolutely everything that I do. Find me on Twitter (@BethHopeMedia) or on LinkedIn.

Experience

Amvros Films (2014)

Working for a friend, I helped out as a runner and worked on continuity for the production of a short independent film called The Room. Prior to filming, I aided the director in creating Props lists and organising the timings for Production meetings. By doing so, I learned to appreciate the work that goes into being a Director, and how much commitment it really is for someone creating a film on a small budget. In the future, plans for the production of a feature film are underway, with my job role being Production Manager, a role which I believe I will excel in.

University-based Drama Production (December 2014)

During this two week period, I completed approximately 7 full days working with Caroline Officer, a Television lecturer and producer, James Larkin (a well respected and award winning Director who has worked on production such as Holy City and The Bill)  and MA Acting students. During such time, I carried out the roles of 1st and 2nd Assistant Director and worked on continuity within the production. Also, and more importantly, I worked with another fellow student as Production Manager in order to organise working schedules and call sheets.

BBC Flog It (May 2015)

Working on the set of BBC's production of Flog It during a day of their filming at Sandon Hall in Staffordshire as a Steward proved exciting. Using my experience within customer care, it was easy for to apply past experiences and knowledge to present situations, especially when being empathetic during crowd control. Other expectations included handling and wrapping antiques (ready for auction), as well as taking up a runners position for one of the directors (and her team).

Maverick TV (May 2016)

A one-week placement with Maverick’s Production Manager allowed me to understand the role in a depth that University couldn’t provide. Working closely with Helen Jenks and Richard Banks allowed me to create call sheets and budgets, while looking through past productions and the work produced by the Production Manager behind them. It was this placement that pushed my interest in the role, and it is something that I have taken on several times at University.

Jobs

C & J Clarks (2011 - Present)

I am currently working at Clarks in Nuneaton, commuting each weekend from Birmingham in order to remain consistent in a job that I have held now for over three years. I have, and continue to thoroughly enjoy my time working with great customers and even better staff.

  • I have taken a secondment as Team Leader  which saw me managing a staff of 20 people as well as attending Area meetings, running the store and handling banking, as well as and visual merchandising for my store.

  • Working at Clarks, I ensure the happiness of customers, deal with complaint settlements and authorise refunds and modifications of sales in order to settle any queries made.

  • Here, I have also worked as part of a team, as well as individually with customers on a one to one basis, which I believe will aid me in being patient and empathetic with my peers and any new members that we may aquire.

Skills

Throughout my work and placement experience, I have learned that I have acquired many skills. These include organisation and planning, when working on the production of the short film in order to ensure that all props were determined and ready for production. Also, applying for placements and work experience has proved my resilience, and by remaining within my current job at Clarks for such a long period time also supports this. I have taken initiative at work on a regular basis when working with customers who may have issues or specific enquiries, requiring me to think on my feet. During the modules mentioned during my time at University, I have found that Leadership is a quality and attribute that I have definitely acquired, due to my role as Production Co-ordinator for our final assessment. This required me taking in all paperwork, organising the job roles for classmates during the planning of our production, and dealing with any queries or concerns and solving said problems.
